2009 - 2010 curriculum of the Degree Programme in Business Information Technology, BBA

Basic studies

Project work and learning skills; languages; mathematical and research skills, 36 credits

The main objective of this topic is providing students basic competencies needed to study successfully in this Degree Programme. Furthermore, these competencies form a background for further learning and building professional skills. Most of courses within this topic are instructed during the first semester of studying. Successful completion of these courses serves as an excellent basis for understanding professional subjects and getting practical skills. The particular competencies addressed by this topic include: learning skills and knowing the educational culture of this university, information retrieval and team working, mathematics and statistics, Finnish/Swedish and English languages, scientific writing, and research work.

Students learn basic computing concepts and common business information technology. Students learn how to install different type of computer hardware and software. They learn how to perform tasks such as installation, configuration, diagnosing, preventive maintenance and basic networking.

Students learn how to install, configure and to operate the most commonly used desktop operating systems. Students learn different types of operating systems, their architecture and function. Students learn the fundamentals of data communication: topologies, protocols, network cabling, devices and components, network services.

Business studies, 24 credits

The course module will introduce students to the economy of software business, the software industry and its value chain. In addition, Students will learn how to generate, identify, evaluate and develop software business models, how to develop a business and marketing plan, how to launch and sell software products or services and software project management.
