The first year

Annual theme: Studying and living in the Finnish society and the base for multi-scientific and practice oriented professional activities in nursing.

Goals to achieve:

Students

  • get acquainted with the studying environment and the place where they live
  • get prepared for studies at the university of applied sciences
  • understand a person as a biopsycosocial whole
  • know social and health care as working environment
  • internalize the ethical values of nursing
  • know how to use helping methods in nursing
  • act customer based and aim based in professional interaction

The second  year

Annual theme: Health promotion and nursing in different age groups

Goals to achieve:

Students

  • know how to realize health promotion methods with people in different age groups and different life situations
  • apply central helping methods in clinical nursing
  • understand the wide scope of nursing and its special features

The third year

Annual theme: Mental health work and nursing of  the aged, research and development

Goals to achieve:

Students

  • understand the significance of activities supporting mental health from the point of view of an individual and the society
  • support the ability of action of aging persons in different environments
  • know the basics and methods of research activities

  • Finnish language and culture (elective studies)
  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Nursing of adults
  • Health promotion of the elderly
  • Nursing of  the elderly and Wellness technology
  • Mental health care and psychiatric nursing

The fourth year

Annual theme: Advanced clinical nursing

Goals to achieve:

Students

  • are prepared for nursing, which is multi-professional, all-inclusive, methodical and in accordance with the nursing process
  • have internalized in their activities the ethics and evidence based  nursing
  • are prepared to work in teams in different tasks 
  • are prepared to maintain own working and acting ability as well as to develop both themselves, their working community and the whole professional field
