Advanced professional studies
52AN023 Administration and Management, 3 credits
Learning outcomes and contents of the course: The students form a picture of the social welfare and health care service system and its development strategies. They learn to develop themselves, their work communities, and the entire professional field. They form a picture of the administration of health care organizations and they recognise that administration is an integral part of nursing. They can also apply quality- and health economy-orientated thinking in all activities. Contents: the basic concepts of administration, management, and self-management; the Finnish social welfare and health care service system; legislation that regulates health care service activities; the basics of strategic management; quality systems; organizational culture end community dynamics; leadership.

Learning methods: Lessons, learning assignments, and cooperative group work.
Evaluation of the course: Grading scale 1 - 5. An examination or an assignment.
52ANS00 Medical-Surgical Nursing, 9 credits
Learning outcomes and contents of the course: The students deepen their professional skills and knowledge in medical-surgical nursing. They know how to function in a health promoting way in medical-surgical nursing. They are able to carry out holistic and analytical nursing in compliance with the nursing process. They can apply nursing science and multidisciplinary knowledge in their work with patients.

Evaluation of the course:Grading scale 1 - 5. An examination and a final exam, successful completion of medical and dose calculations.
52ANS04 Guided Practice, 18 credits
Learning outcomes and contents of the course: The students deepen their skills in the nursing of medical-surgical patients, e.g. in the ward of a central hospital and/or health centre and/or at the reception/out-patient department of a hospital/health centre. They learn the tasks of a nurse in charge of a nursing team and and pay attention to the quality- and economy-related viewpoints of nursing in their work. They can perform advanced life support.

- Literature related to the theoretical studies.
- Individual learning journal (opiskelijan työkirja).
Evaluation of the course: Grading scale pass/fail on the basis of self-assessment and feedback from the clinical supervisor and the teacher in charge of guided practice. A written assignment.
