KETOAKKU
Kemi-Tornio university of applied sciences' student union KETOAKKU is a student society for all our school's branches that represents all our students. It is exactly the right organization to contact in all student life matters. KETOAKKU's mission is to represent our school's students and their opinions in schools decision-making and to support students in student lifes ups and downs.
KETOAKKU is responsible for the Kemi-Tornio UAS's tutoring, students' social welfare (partying) and now and then we also arrange sport events. Besides of these, arranging training and student events are also areas of KETOAKKU's activity. KETOAKKU also offers free real estate providing.
All Kemi-Tornio university of applied sciences' students are welcome to become members of KETOAKKU. KETOAKKU is a member of SAMOK ry. By joining KETOAKKU you automaticly join SAMOK too. KETOAKKU is proud to tell that it's membership fee is cheapest in Finland.
Organization
Board of representatives is the commission that uses the highest power in KETOAKKU. The board decides all the bigger policies of the student union and supervises the council and it's doings.
The council is the executive commission of KETOAKKU. The councils term is one calendar year. The council meets couble of times per month to decide about upcoming events, financial supports and improving the students' wellbeing. The council is also responsible for the collaboration between the student union and student bodies. The acts of the council are divided in different sectors of responsibilities.
The representatives and councilmembers are voulanteers. Who ever member of KETOAKKU can run in them. The members for the council and board of representatives are selected one calendar year at a time. This selection happens at autumns and every student will be notified about it.
Besides of the board of representatives and the council there is also a secretary general acting in KETOAKKU. The secretary general is the only employee of KETOAKKU. The secretary's duties are to run the organization's daily business. At the side the secretary general takes care of the foreign students' living and studying, delivers information between the school, KETOAKKU and students, tells about KTUAS for the becoming students, arranges meetings with other student unions and collaboratives. And after all this the secretary is the receptionist at the office.

Since summer 2008, KETOAKKU's secretary general has been mrs. Ulla Kittilä.
History
And this is how it all begun...
It was a sauna evening in 1992 when a group of students from Kemi-Tornio polytechnic (currently known as 'university of applied sciences') gathered to discuss about how anemic student life at Kemi-Tornio region is. That is how a brilliant idea of founding own student union in Kemi-Tornio polytechnic. The union was suppossed to arrange events and to supervise students' rights at Kemi-Tornio Polytechnic. The idea didn't stay in the sauna but at the same year begun the history of own student union which carries the name KETOAKKU - Student union of Kemi-Tornio university of applied sciences.
At the beginning, the main activities were to arrange events and parties while trying to get all student's at the region to cooperate with eachothers. During the years the action has bees so succesfull that in 1998 the union got it's own office and since 1999 there has been fullday secretary general.
Addition for arranging action and parties lot of real stuff has came into KETOAKKU's field activity. For example supervising the rights of all our students', developing the contents of studying and education with the university of applied sciences, international projects and a lot more.
